Men go out into the wild and hunt these animals (poachers) they kill them and take the parts they can sell . the animals are not always shot straight away but insnared in traps where they are subjected to all kinds of torture until they die . Often customs come across smugglers bringing things like animal skin with the fur still on as a whole literally the entire body with holes where they eyes nose etc were even claws still left in the paws . the skins we were shown had wound marks from where they were killed . It broke my heart . They even smuggle whole heads that have been stuffed and mounted onto plaques

Yeah it's pretty disgusting to think it still goes on in this day and age Elephants are sometimes caught and have their tusks removed without even being killed first ... they are then left to die

I have fake fur jackets and so does Ellie.

I do love animals and only buy free range organic meat.

But I do love leather. I only wear shoes and boots and only have leather handbags. Yesterday my oh bought me a shearling jacket :-/

But I would never wear real fur!!

Have real fur products, but think it's more accepted over here than in most places in the world. Trapping and fur trade still exists in Canada. They utilize the entire animal and nothing goes to waste. xxx

But Jen

Is this because Canada is cold and the fur is warm as opposed to just wearing it because it looks pretty?

It's a way of life in Canada's north, southerners and ppl back east are against it, but I think it's a matter of living around it to understand it. Real fur and animal hide is a natural insulator against the cold and damp, and eventho they have developed synthetic means that are pretty decent, but not quite there. Trapping here is allowed by a select few who use humane methods, even the first nations have laws they have to abide by and they are usually exempt from hunting regulations all year round. I do own mukluks, slippers, which I brought over for some ladies too..fur mitts with beading, fur trimmed jackets as well as a few hats. I'm against farming animals for fur, that is cruel, but trapping has been done in Canada since ppl first set foot here. x

I don't agree with poaching at all, actually I don't really like the thought of killing animals but I will be having animal skins and horns in my house next year. They are from the trip that oh went on, he shot the animals and like Jen said the whole animal was used for food while they were there and what wasn't used was taken to the local butchers to be sold.
He went to South Africa and although there will be poachers the majority of hunting isn't like that and is actually beneficial to the country as there are over populations of certain animals in certain areas. He also had to pay for what was killed and that money is put back into the preservation of the country.
Hunting does not appeal to me in the slightest but when done legally it really can be a benefit
