At what age?
What age do you think it's ok to get children to help around the house, to learn about keeping things clean and tidy etc, and what sort of things do you think are ok to delegate?
Tommys 9 now and is wanting to earn pocket money and showing an interest in helping me out. I've let him Hoover and fold the washing once its dried. I just wondered what other people's opinions on this were

Re: At what age?
Right from the word go, with putting their own toys away after they have played etc.
As for chores - I think 7+yrs is old enough to help out, Take the rubbish out, hoover, pick up, empty the dishwasher, dusting.. Skirting board can be a good one and window sills.. All the little jobs Mummy never has time to do.

I think at 9 he could do lots of things, sorting the washing, putting clothes away, dishes, bed making, taking out rubbish etc

I'm not sure as I am not at that stage as of yet, but Imogen is 4.5 years old and loves helping me putting the ironing away into the correct drawers (clothes) lol

Ok at 12/13 R
Washes up, puts clothes away, bins out, tidies his room, puts dirty washing in laundry room. Takes nappies to bin. Hoovers.
I'm thinking of showing him how to iron, but more a skill than a job for him to do.
He's been doing these since about 9

Re: At what age?
I do ask Ellie to do little things like put things away etc
I used to get paul to dust between the spindles in the stairs when he was about 8 or 9 as his hands were just the right size. I used to give him £1
