My grandad

Post  x-Kell-x on Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:08 am

Was involved in a car crash today Sad
Aparently yesterday he had 'a funny turn' and today the paramedics believed he lost contiousness when driving, so they took him to the hospital, turns out he's ha a series of mini strokes over the last few days!
He lives in Scotland near mum so she is with them but I want to go up! I can't afford to and grandad will just moan because we are making a fuss!
He's been told to rest and stop smoking but I know he won't rest! Makes me realise my grand parents aren't invincible like I always believed as a kid Sad

Oh honey, so sorry darling. It must be some comfort that your mum is with him. Have you got plans to see him over Christmas?

It's horrible when you realise your parents/grandparents are getting older and more vulnerable. My dad will be 70 next year and it worries me xxxx

I am planning to visit in the feb half term, I'm wondering if maybe going up between Christmas and new year might be an option instead. Ill have too look at the bank balance!

It is good mum is with them, I know she won't sugar coat anything and will tell us when we need to be there.
When my mums sister was fighting cancer and brain tumours we were on stand by, mum lived here then. We got the call to say we needed to come up at 5am but actually it was too late and she had already passed away they just didn't want to worry us!! I know it's not the same situation at all but I would hate for it to be too late again Sad

Oh no Kell. How awful. I think I'd be the same as you and want to go check for myself that he was ok. There are some good rail deals out there if you travel off peak and book in plenty of time. Really hope that you're all ok xxx

He's ok Clare, although even if he wasn't he wouldn't want to let on :S
He had a complete overhaul of tests done while in hospital so we are just waiting on results. Me and my sisters are planning to go up the weekend before Christmas, I am going to be one busy lady Smile

I spoke to my mum this evening and I'm not getting a very positive vibe from her.
She thinks my grandad believe's that his lung cancer is back (he had surgery 7years go to remove it)
I asked her if she thought us coming up was needed, she said we don't have the results yet, but if he thinks its back chances are he is right. And if anything were to happen in say 3 or 4 months and we hadn't come up how would we feel.

Well I'd be deverstated to say the least, so ill be going to Scotland in a few weeks. Hopefully everything will be fine, but I can't take that chance of not seeing him and him not meeting his beautiful great granddaughter.

Crying or Very sad

Oh darling, how sad. Really hope he is wrong, and it's not back.

Completely agree that going to visit him will put your mind at rest and I'm sure would perk him up no end. Especially some cuddles from the gorgeous Lily! Xxx
